Is white noise ok for sleeping?

Using white noise for sleep is generally fine for healthy babies when it is set up safely and not used around the clock. Many babies fall asleep more easily and stay asleep longer when a steady sound masks doors closing, traffic, or older siblings playing. The most important part is the volume: it should be soft enough that you can talk over it in a normal voice, not shout. Distance matters too. As your child grows and becomes a more settled sleeper, you can gradually reduce the volume or length of time it runs to ensure they can also sleep in quieter environments.
